  1. Shoes were not known in former times at all, as a matter of fact it is only about seventy years since they were first introduced. The people in olden times never wore shoes. I often heard it said that Thomas Muldoon of Knockhadalteen, Ballmote, Co Sligo, never wore a shoe until he got married. Some people never care their feet as they do not believe in it. Then they have in-growing nails and every other disease of the feet imaginable. Other people give their feet great care, as they keep their nails cut and keep the dirt scraped out and well washed.
    Mostly all the children go bare-footed in Summer time and wear shoes in Winter time
