- The houses long ago were built of Channel and roofed with oak sticks that people would get in the bogs or in the woods, and thatched with fune straw.
There would be a itchen and a room in the dwelling house. There were two wooden bedsteads in the room. The father and mother would sleep in one bed and the rest of the family in the other bed. There would be a couple of steps from the kitchen down to the room. There were no out offices adjoining the dwelling house so the cattle, horses, pigs and hens had to take shelter during the long Winter months, in the kitchen. Therefore the dung-heap used to be at the kitchen door.
There was only one chimney on the house.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
