  1. About two hundred years ago a Danish boat laden with gold was wrecked in Ballyheigue Bay. A story is told that the Crosbie family who resided in Ballyheigue knew that this boat was at sea and they quickly gathered up their followers and planned to rob her.
It is said that a man named Cantillion went to a friend near Abbeydorney and asked him to come and help them.
When the boat was sighted outside Ballyheigue Bay, Those on land put up signals and brought her in in the rocks.
They then invited the crew to Crosbies house where the Castle now stands, and held a ball there and gave the crew plenty wine. While the ball was in progress the Crosbies and their followers went, and over-powered the guard of the boat, and robbed it of all the gold, and got away with it.
