- A Pheasant is a very big bird. She is about the size of a hen. Her colour is brown with white and red spots. She has a small tail. You would know her from the cock because the cock has a long tail.She always stays in a wood, or in a field of hay, or in a field of corn, or in a place where there is a lot of briars or ferns.She lays about seven or eight eggs. They are about the size of a chicken's egg. They are spotted eggs.She sits on the eggs for about three weeks. Then the young pheasants come out.Then she goes out every day gathering food for the young ones. When the young pheasants are big they are able to provide food for themselves.The food she eats is turnips(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
