- Tradition tells us that a treasure lies hidden in John Cullen's land. This field is situated in the town-land of Glenballinashee. The treasure I know of is placed under a flag overshadowed by a big high white thorn bush. It is supposed to have been placed there by the Danes.It is the belief of the people that the treasure consists of a pot of gold. The story tells us that an eel guards every day. He is constantly there but he absents himself for and a half hours each day. During this period he visits Lough Gill for a drink. The treasure could have been dug up during his absence but the certain hours are not known. No one ever tried to unearth this treasure.
