  1. The Rampart was built in the year 1848, and it was erected by the public works. It is situated between Strandhill and Ballisodare.
It was built for the purpose of keeping the tide from flooding the land.
There is a flood-gate in the rampart for keeping the water from flowing quickly.
Our house is situated on a hill over-looking the rampart.
