The fishing boats (steamboats) known as 'Trawlers' make Killybegs their headquarters when operating in Donegal Bay. Those Trawlers are owned by English Companies.
An ex-British Navy man- Paddy Gallagher (since gone to his eternal reward) a native of Killybegs, was the local Agent for the Trawlers.
His business was to look after provisions and sick members of the crews there.
A brother of Gallaghers - a well known character in Killybegs on account of his having but one leg (Gamie Gallagher) had the contract of taking out the Excise Officer in his little boat from the pier to all strange vessels that came to anchor in the harbour. The Excise officer examines the ships papers and sees that everything is in order.
