- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The evening meal consisted of oaten cake and milk and in later days tea was used sparingly. To spare flour which was regarded as being dear, Boxty was made by grating raw potatoes and adding salt flour a little milk and baking with plenty butter like pancakes. They are best eaten hot. Potato cake was also made from boile dpotatoes pounded free from lumps flour added, salt, all kneaded up and formed into cakes to fit pan or oven and cut into four "Farrels" and baked well on one side in butter, then turned and well baked on the other side. These were eaten hot.
Young children were given "Brochawn bawn" as soon as they got first teeth. Fresh milk was boiled and some fine oatmeal mixed into it and well boiled. This was turned on a plate to cool, and eaten with a "well" of butter in the centre to dip the spoonfuls in.- Bailitheoir
