The treasure is supposed to have been placed there by one of the Danes for some of his relations.
A man the name of Devaney went to that place in hopes of finding the "ceiste" all for himself. However he found it a job tough enough for him. Guarding it well he found a spirit. But prepared for the worst he was with a "colter" of a plough.
The spirit opened his large mouth but Devaney failed to thrust the colter down the spirits neck. But as heavy a heart as he went with he came back with a heavier one, and what was worse than all nearly without his life but certainly without the "ceiste"?
He saw the crock of gold.
