- Clashmealcon Caves which are mentioned in song and story are in the townland of Clashmealcon, on the sea shore about one hundred yards to the east from the ruins of Brown's Castle. Those caves were used in the days of the Yeomen. There was one Peter Dunfort who was in the white boy organization and he took shelter there for a long time until he made his escape to America. This Peter Dunfort lived in middle Clash and another man whose name was Owen O'Neill lived in east Clash. Both were in the white boys and they were pursued by the Yeomen and after a long chase through bogs and moor-land, O'Neill was surrounded by the Yeomen and slain at the side of a fort and ever since that fort goes by the name of "Lisseen O'Neill". The spot where he was slain is as plain to be seen to day as the day the deed was committed. No grass ever grows in the spot where he fell only weeds.
