- There is not so much lime used now as long ago. Long ago the people used to build their houses with lime and stone.
Lime is burned in a kiln. A man quarried lime stone. He broke the stones with a stone hammer, a layer of turf was put in the bottom of the kiln. A layer of stones was put over the turf. He continued this until the kiln was filled. There was a poreen in the bottom of the kiln. He set fire to this, and when it was burned, he took it out and sold it.
