    Where the limpid Feale meanders, by Listowel's ancient town,
    Stands an ivy-ruined mansion, once a castle of renown.
    But its days of pride are over, and its fame has passed away.
    Save what legend, song or story, still preserves for us, this day.

    'Twas an evening like the present, in the Autumn long ago,
    When a maiden fair and beauteous paced the pebbly strand below.
    In rich and gay profusion, o'er her neck and shoulders bare,
    Hung the dark luxuriant tresses of her lovely flowing hair.
    III
    She had scores of gay admirers; amidst the numerous throng,
    Was a youth of gallant bearing who had loved her well and long
    But by her father's stern orders Philip dare not her approach
    She should wed her cousin Arthur, a young kinsman of her own.
