The potato crop is planted about the beginning of April. The farmer scores the ground and then puts out the manure, then he spreads it in straight lines three feet apart. When he has that done he turned the front sod with his loy and when he has all the front sods turned he drops the seed and turns. After a fortnight or so he moulds them and weeds them. When the stalks are about a foot high the farmer sprays them. The farmer digs them out of the ground in the Autumn. In the year 1845 a terrible disease called the blight destroyed the potato(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
