- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)There was a Monastery at Curraghs which is now a graveyard and it was destroyed by one of Cromwell's soldiers named Sir Frederick Hamilton. He also killed Garret Forde who was Chieftain of this district and who lived in Corry. There was a convent at Gubb in the townland of Cartron Beg at this time and Garret Forde's two daughters escaped and came and lived with the nuns. Sir Frederick Hamilton followed them and kill them and killed the nuns also. The rooms of this convent are still to be seen there. During the penal days the people ate nothing but potatoes and they were very healthy.
