- There was a clay works at Spencer Harbour about 65 years ago. There were roofing tiles sewerage and drainage pipes and crockery ware of every description made at it. There were five-clay bricks and common bricks made at it also. The five-clay bricks were made from clay that was brought from Athlone in boats. The sewerage pipes and drainage pipes were made from clay that was got in the hills. There were about twenty men carting coal every day. The coal was brought down as far as the levels on an aerial rope. The manager of the clay works was a man named Albie Walland.
