Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)about. He had his mind made up one day as he was returning from the sea, to burn his boat when he reached the land as he thought there was bad luck attached to it. Suddenly a mermaid appeared to him and caught the side of the boat. She told him that he was be the richest man in Galway if he would do her bidding. She told him that a son would be born to his wife and that Jack would put a jewled chain round his neck and never take it off for the peril of his life and above all Jack would have to give his son when he would be twenty one years. Jack consented to all these things and the mermaid disappeared. Jack went home joyfull and happy and all the fishes of the sea following him into the bay.
