  1. There are many legends told about this Abbey.
    It is said Cromwell was always tormenting the monks and at last he succeeded in turning the monks out of the Abbey. Three of the monks went to Kilconnell Abbey and the rest went to Athlone.
    Cromwell burned many of their books but if any of the books could be found they could tell much history of Eglish and the locality about.
    There was a font in the Abbey full of holy water. It happened a girl hung herself and she was buried under the font and immediately the holy water
