- (continued from previous page)the streets, are sheep and some cattle and the most of the cattle are sold in the Fair Green.Toll is paid on cattle and sheep. There is a penny paid on big sheep, and a half-penny paid on lambs. The toll that is paid on cattle is threepence on big cattle and one penny paid on calves. Toll is also called "custom".The custom is given to the custom-man, and he afterwards gives it to Mr. Wade, who owns the fair-green. When an animal is sold, luck money is given. There is not as much luck money given on a five pound beast, as on a ten pound beast. There is about one shilling or one and sixpence paid on a five pound beast, and two shillings(continues on next page)
