  1. Bread
    In years gone by we had several kinds of bread, but the bread that was used mostly was bread made from oaten meal. This bread was often baked on a griddle. It was also baked standing up by the fire with what was called a bread-stand, at the back of it to hold it up. It was sometimes baked on a griddle-stand with broken fire under it. Oat-meal bread is little used nowadays.
    Barley bread was very much used in olden times. It was better bread for eating than rye bread.
