   Now as the people of Gaddyduff are never out late at night, and never were, the "Black Thief" used the protestant graveyard for a slaughter house and the church for a kitchen where he roasted the dead sheep.
   Now it happened one night a man was passing the church and he saw a black figure cutting up white objects and throwing them into a huge pot which stood over a blazing fire. The man did not know that it was the "Black Thief" cooking heads of cabbage and in terror he rushed to the house of the lady caretaker and cried "The diel's in your kirk". "I don't believe it" she replied . "All right come and see" said he. But she could not walk because her rheumatism was very bad. He told her that he would carry her. So lifting her up on his back he carried her to the graveyard. he told
