- Long ago, there were many local customs practised on a wedding-day.
When the carriage was coming home with the bride and bridegroom, the young boys of the district used to unyoke the horses and draw the carriage home if they liked the newl married couple. Once, when the Rev. Mourne, Rector of Muff, was getting married in Londonderry, he was drawn from Culmore down to the Rectory by a great crowd of young men. The footman kept on the brake the whole way to prevent them from going too hard.
When my aunt Maggie was getting married, the young men lighted bonfires along the way home. They wanted to draw her home, but my grandfather would not allow them to do so, he was afraid that too many young men would start to draw the carriage and something might happen on the way.- Bailitheoir
