    There were two kinds of travellers many years ago.

    There were two kinds of travellers many years ago. There were poor people that went through the country from door to door asking for help; and pedlars who called at the houses to try to sell the wares they carried in a pack in the back.
    The beggars-as they were called_carried bags for a meal, and bags for potatoes.
    As they passed through the country they sat a while in each house. and related all the latest news they had collected.
    These people stopped or lodged about the town.
