    fairies. Then the cure commences. The man gets a red hot coal and runs it along from the point of her tail to the point of her nose singeing the hair as he goes Then he runs it across her back making the Sign of the Cross.
    After that straw is burned at her nose and a drink is prepared for her. The drink consists of bran, hot water, salt and the soot of nine vessels in the house such as pots, pans and teapots and other cooking utensils. To complete the drink a few coppers are thrown in.
    If the cow drinks this and afterwards licks her lips and chews the cud she is cured.
