In boggy and soft lands where donkeys are used two wicket creels are hung over the donkey's back and used for carrying turf, manure, and sometimes fish. Black rods which grow wild are also used in the construction of these baskets but they do not fetch as high a price as sally-baskets. - In olden times people used to make their own candles, as oil lamps or electricity was not in vogue in those days. They made the wax out of the white pith which grows inside the rushes.
