- The old people of long ago who are living in this district still say that the houses of ancient times were built with one room and a kitchen. These houses used to be built, with stones and mortar and thatched with straw, rushes or old Irish slates that used to be found in the quarries around.
In some of the houses where there would be a large family the fire would be made in the middle of the kitchen floor allowing the smoke to go out on the door.
In nearly all the ancient houses there used to be a bed in the kitchen in the corner to the right hand-side of the fire. This bed used to be known as the out-shot. The old people used to sleep in it usually.
Long ago the old people used to leave a piece of clay in the kitchen floor for churning on.
In the houses long ago there used to be one room and a kitchen. The door used to be convenient to the room, leaving a long end on the kitchen, leaving space for cattle to be tied(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
