  1. The old people always had three meals, breakfast, dinner, and supper. While the potatoes lasted they had them for every meal with milk. When the potatoes were gone, they had three meals of yellow-meal stirabout. They had meat once a year, when the cows calved. They then ate the little calf. In the Summer the men worked before their breakfast, but in the winter they did not. They got up when the cock crew, as they had no watches or clocks. The tables used then were called hanging tables. Two legs were stuck in the ground, near the wall, with an iron bar between them. The table was on hinges on this iron bar. When not in use the table was put up against the wall. The bread used was yellow-meal bread,
