is always almost half-full. When his collection is getting too heavy he sells some of his store.
He begs tea, sugar, meat, and old clothes; if the clothes are not too badly worn he tries to sell them again, while he himself will wear any old rags. Sometimes he has on two pairs of trousers, three or four waistcoats, and perhaps two coats; he sometimes has home-knitted woolen socks, and always two different boots, neither of them laced up. When he gets better boots he sells them. He appreciates sixpence or a shilling too, and when he has collected a few shillings he goes to the nearest town and gets drunk.
