   In olden time the people had no cowhouse like we have nowadays. They used to tie the cows at one end of the house this was called Ceann na mbó. In order to tie them they drove a horse-shoe or a piece of iron in the wall with which to fasten the rope. The ropes they used were made of straw hay or rushes and the people used to leave a lúbóg at the end of it to tighten the rope well on to the horse-shoe so that it would not loosen. These ropes were called spanchels. They were the strongest ropes used. They used to tie the cows by the horns. The tied the ass by the sidewall and the small calf to the leg of the table. The hens were kept on a loft over the cows and the pigs were reared under the beds. The old people had very peculiar names on the animals. They used to give the cow the name of the person from whom they bought her. When the people are driving the cows they say “howey, howey, howey” and when calling them “pregeen, pregeen, pregeen”. The people when calling the hens to the food
