    wedding and after the ceremony two horsemen used to race to the home of the newly married couple one in favour of the groom and the other in favour of the bride.
    It was an omen which ever reached first. If it was the groom's friend the groom would outlive his wife.
    If it was the bride's friend she would outlive her husband.
