  1. In olden times there were a number of kinds of bread eaten by the people such as boxty, potato cake, soda cake, oaten bread, and sometimes loaf bread.
    For the oaten bread the oats was sown by every farmer in the district, and when it was cut it was brought to the local mill, and there it was dried and ground into meal.
    Then it was put in big packs and left near the fire this was used for the whole year. The ingredients that were put in the oat cake were; a little (m) flour, a pinch of salt, oaten meal, milk, and
