There is an old story about the robin getting its red breast. When Our Lord was hanging on the Cross a little bird was flying by and saw the crown of thorns on his head and he got sorry for Our Lord.
He tried to pull off the thorns with his beak, and a drop of blood fell on the breast of the bird and ever since these birds are called robin red-breasts.
