    as "the big four of April" , another big fair is the St Patricks day fair in Gort.
    Money is taken for the stand of every animal in the fair green or marked this money is called toll. Three-pence a piece is charged for a sheep ,six-pence for a bullock ,or heifer ,and a shilling for a horse ,but it is only charged for the animals that are sold. The toll-man knows the animals that are sold by the mark which the buyer puts on them. Some buyers put on a mark with raddle ,and more cuts the letter the first letter in their name on the animals back,with a scissors and the ordinary farmer rubs a bit of mud to the
