    from a hollow. elder branch, about a foot long. A rammer was made from a bit of hazel. Boys make traps, for catching small birds from sally rods. It is set by means of a forked stick, with a short stick acting as a trigger, and a long bent slender sally acting as a spring.
    These traps are baited with bread crumbs, or grain, and are used only in cold wintry weather.
    Snares for catching fish are made from horse -hair. Boys make fishing-rods from long ash rods which they cut in thick wood. Snares for catching hares and rabbits are made from brass wire.
