Then the potato sets are left about one foot apart in the alleys with the manure. The the drills are then closed with the plough. When the stalks are a few inches high they are moulded with the plough.
    When the potatoes are to be sowed in ridges, the slits, or sets, are first "stuck". Sticking slits means making a little hole in the ridge, and then dropping a slit into it. Three slits are put in a row across the ridge
