    pick the sound, big ones first and put them in a pit in the fields. This pit is made about a foot deep and two feet wide, and as long as may be needed.
    We cover the pits with scraws, and then put a layer of clay outside. The potatoes then safe for the winter.
    We grow the following kinds of potatoes, Champions, Up-to-dates, Kerr Pinks, Arran Banners, Green Tops, Arran Cheifs, The Grays, Deaf Lugs, Shamrock and Arran Victory.
    We grow Garden Fillers Epicures, Early Roses, British, and Irish "Queens" as early varieties.
