    This day is the beginning of Lent and every person fasts from something.

    On this day the young girls go around like the mummers and they carry a doll around called the "bríneóg". They say a little rhyme. -
    "Bridget Bridget
    Dressed in white
    Give us some money
    To dress her right."
    They do this in honour of St Bridget who was called.
    Bridget of the Gael.
    Shrove
    This is the time the people generally get married.

    The young boys and girls use chalk on this day and they chalk the people especially those who are wearing black clothes.
