    Thirty or forty years ago, beggar were more plentiful than they are now. They went from house to house asking for alms. Nobody refused them for a "charity" or a nights lodging, because Our Lady and Saint Joseph were refused for a lodging on the first Christmas Night. Teh beggars came periodically. Tom the Thrasher (because his father used to thresh long ago) was one of them.
