  1. Ninety years ago all the crops failed in this country, even the cattle died. Whatever oats grew the people got growned into meal and lived on the meal. Others had to wander about in search of food and lived on nettles and anything they could find. While the nettles lasted they begged for salt in the houses. It was not considered any wonder to see two or three people dead in a field or on the road side.
