    Long Long ago a lovely mermaid arose out of the sea...

    for some time she asked them to bring her back again to the sea. She had grown sad that she was a long time away from her own folk.
    A lot of people went down on May morning with her to the strand. She told all the people to be there on that day a year afterwards they were all to come to the same place and wait until three cows would come out of the same place and wait until three cows would come out of the sea. Then she went into the sea and was seen no more. All the people on that, a year later all gathered on the shore to watch. Just at noon the waves were stirred up and three cows came out of the sea.
