  1. We have three cows. We call one of them Maol dubh one of them Polly and the other White Horns. My mother milks them every morning and evening. She milks a few strands of milk on the ground for the fairies and she makes the sign of the cross on the cow's side in order to bless her.
    Long ago the people used to tie a horse-shoe nail in a red rag on the cow's tail before she calved.
