  1. that it overlaps the first bundle, and fastens it as before. Some thatchers put a straight piece of scallop across the bundle then fasten each end and by two other scallops driven down with the wooden mallet.
    He then begins at the bottom & works up to the top of the roof & so on.

    When the roof is covered the thatcher has a comb & he combs all the loose straws.
    Then with a thatcher's knife he cuts the nave of the house straight.
