  1. Song - Patrick Sheehan (continued)

My name is Patrick Sheehan and my age is thirty four.

    (continued from previous page)
Bereft of foe man kith and kin
    And plenty all around
    They staved within my cabin
And I slept upon the ground
But in spite of all trials
    I did not hardship know
Till he joined the English army
    Far away from Aherlow
Base up with you says the coporal
    You lazy Irish hound
And dont you hear you sleepy dog
That they had called to Earn's sound
    O Blessed Virgin Mary
This is my mournful tail tale
Here I am a poor prisoner
    In Dublin's weary jail
    Struck blind betyween the trenshot
    Where I ne'er a fear a foe
    I ne'er I fear again will see
    My own sweet Aherlow.
O all you youths and country men
    Attend to what I say
For if you join the English army
