  1. There was a place for tanning leather about ninety years ago in Tunnyin townland in the parish of Kill. There were big holes made in the ground. They were filled with water and copperas and the bark of oak-trees.
    The people put in the hide of a cow. The copperas and the bark were to take the hair off the hide. It was left there to steep for several months. Then the took it out and beat with flat pieces of boards and then it was leather.
