    main road, and it was up that old road the fairs used to be held. Of course there were no main roads at that time.
    As the town died away the fair was carried on as a kind of "patron" or a day of amusement but gradually abuses crept in but it was stopped by the parish priest of Kilmore, Rev. Fr. Pat. Clarke. It was stopped about forty years ago. An old man told me that the fair was called "Aonach an Óilean."
