    another rank so that there was no trouble in picking them. They chosed (?)them when picking them. This is how the pit was made. They dug a trench about a foot deep and put the potatoes in it. They dug a sod called a scrait and put the grassy side against the potatoes. Then they dug a smaller trench around and put on the pit in the form of a hay rick. Sometimes they thatched it.
