  1. The Care of a Hatching Hen
    When a hen is going to hatch she stays on the nest after laying. She picks out her own feathers and puts them on the nest.
    To prepare the nest you get a nice sized box do not have it too big or to small. A sod of earth is put in the bottom of the box to keep the eggs moist, then some nice soft hay. Put the hen on the nest with a couple of eggs under her to see if the hatching will continue right. After that she can get the remainder of them.
    The hen should be set to hatch in the night and should be kept in a dark place while hatching. She should be fed once a day at the same time every day, and let out for a run. The hen should not be left out too long because the germ die's in the egg when it gets cold.
    After three weeks the chicken begins to pick at the shell and it breaks off by and by. The shell should be taken from the hen when the
