    Matthew Regan was a hedge school master in Oxhill. He fell in love with a girl in Cootehall. When she refused to marry him he composed this poem as if it was she who was speaking:-
    "For without equivocation
    Or mental reservation
    Unto your application
    I ne'er will yield atall
    For your wild insinuation
    It can make no penetration,
    So drop such speculation
