“Once upon a time there lived a poor widow and her son Jack.”
Once upon a time there lived a poor widow and her son Jack. They were very poor and had not money to buy coal. So Jack used to go to a nearby wood for fire wood. One day when he went into the forest he heard beautiful music. He followed it and at last he came to a little house. He left down his bundle. It was not long until a small man came out and invited Jack in for dinner. Jack said his mother would be watching him home. Then the little man in and brought out a big basket of food to Jack and told him to come often to see him. When he reached home his mother was surprised to see a basket with him. He told her he got it from a small man that lived there in the wood. Early next morning Jack went back to the little house. The little man gave him a white horse to go and rescue a prince from a tower which a witch had sl
