    Then she puts it in the oven and hangs it over the fire.
    In winter when milk is scarce she makes the bread with cream - starter. If bread were scarce for the tea she makes pancakes.
    In Winter when buttermilk is scarce my mother makes wheaten bread from sounds. Sounds are made by steeping oaten meal in water for a few days.
