Jim Smith, the famous footballer, was born in Gola, the next townland to this. For many years he was captain of the Cavan football team. Every year he travelled to America with the team.
The townland of Cliffin is entirely owned by protestants but long ago it was owned by catholics.
In the Penal Times the land was taken from the catholics and given to the protestants. All that land is rich and well wooded. All the houses are slated because most of them were built by the landlord.
